Pear and Apple Crumble

I remember how my Mum used to make this for us whenever we craved something comforting to eat! It is quick and easy and delicious.


3 large pears, 3 large apples, lemon juice, sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder. For the crumble topping, 1 cup flour, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 150g butter, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup oats, 1/2 cup sliced almonds.

Peel and cut the pears and apples into small pieces. Toss them in the juice of 1/2 a lemon. Add 2 tablespoons of flour and toss. Add enough sugar to sweeten the fruit. The only way to test it is to eat a piece! Add the cinnamon and toss the fruit thoroughly. Place in a buttered oven proof dish (22x22cm) and set aside. Make the crumble by placing the flour in a bowl. Cut 130g of the butter into small pieces and add to the flour. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the salt, sugar, oats and almonds and mix together. Spread the crumble mixture over the fruit. Dot with the remaining butter and bake at 180degrees celsius for 50-60 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or fresh cream. Enjoy! P.S. You could leave out the oats in the crumble and you could use whatever nuts you like. You could also use whatever fruit you like - peaches, plums, nectarines, rasberries, blueberries.
